The Campaign is now accepting proposals from organizations to provide summer enrichment programs to complement the school district’s summer reading program.
Without access to enriching summer activities, research shows that children can lose up to three months of reading comprehension skills over the summer. By the end of fifth grade, these students could be as much as two grade levels behind their peers.
Dubuque’s Campaign for Grade-Level Reading partners are supporting a coordinated approach among summer program providers, schools and funders to assist in maintaining and possibly increasing reading proficiency during summer breaks. The Campaign is now accepting proposals from providers interested in offering a summer enrichment program to complement the summer reading program offered by the Dubuque Community School District (DCSD).
DCSD and the selected organization will collaborate to create a Summer Academy Program for students struggling with reading to help them prepare for success in the upcoming year. The program will need to provide meaningful enrichment and recreational activities that support and enhance the literacy program offered by DCSD.
Interested organizations can find the request for proposal (RFP) with detailed information on the project and how to submit a proposal at www.glr.dubuquespromise.org. The deadline to submit a proposal is February 2 at 5 p.m.
